EVER WONDERED
WHY SHIPS
BRING PILOTS ONBOARD ?

COST OR INVESTMENT ?
Is hiring a pilot to navigate a ship through risky waters a cost or an investment?
If you’re willing to take the risk, it’s simply a cost.
However, if you want to proactively address challenges and mitigate risks to avoid unexpected financial surprises, then it becomes an investment.
In the field of structural waterproofing, a culture has emerged over the years that has led to both excessive overkill and, even worse, damaging underkill.
By reducing—or ideally eliminating—these "killers," the pilot service more than pays for itself.
TIMING IS KEY
At certain points in the project schedule decisions has to be made, instructions has to be given, construction surfaces has to be evaluated, special attention has to be given etc. etc.
This can be defined as STOP/GO points.
That's when the PILOT enters the project - and because all modern construction projects has got extremely tight time schedules the TIMING is crucial

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A [WP] PILOT
When hiring a waterproofing consultant (referred to as a "Pilot"), there are three key qualifications to consider:
-
Knowledge: The consultant should have a deep understanding of structure, waterproofing, and processes, specifically from the perspective of the building's waterproofing integrity.
-
Experience: The consultant should be experienced both theoretically and practically. Most importantly, they must have firsthand experience with the consequences of failed waterproofing, having "felt the pain" themselves on more than one occasion.
-
Courage: This is where you truly get value for your money. A consultant who has the courage to challenge decisions based on factors outside the structure's best interests is invaluable, truly worth their weight in gold.

TYPICAL SERVICE ELEMENTS
Of course, since all projects are different it is not possible to pre-write the exact "recipe" for any [WP] project, without knowing all the details.
But normally we divide the service-package into the following main groups:
- [WP] OUTLINE
- STRUCTURAL [WP] ASSESSMENT / OPTIMIZATION
- [WP] SOLUTIONS ASSESSMENT / OPTIMIZATION
- PROCESS ASSESSMENT / OPTIMIZATION
- QC PLAN
- [WP] QUALIFICATIONS ASSESSMENT / OPTIMIZATION
- "PRE-FLIGHT" ROUTINES
- INSTRUCTIONS
- QC EXECUTION / ASSIST
- WRAP UP

The role of a "Pilot" is to provide management with knowledge, advice, and services on a planned / ad-hoc basis, with the goal of preventing failures and avoiding unnecessary costs.
